GEELONG Fresh Foods opened in 2005 in what was originally a Fagg’s Mitre 10 building.
Two brothers and a sister own and run the store, implementing the knowledge and exhibiting the passion inherited from their father Ralph and mother Giovanna who they say has “fruit and vegetables running through her veins”. Five generations of fresh food experience was realised with the opening of their gourmet food store.
Mark left his job to start the business with his siblings. Daniel was working as fruit and vegetable delivery driver but was passionate about starting his own business. Fresh out of school, young Carmel was thrown in the deep end.
The family spent weeks without sleep so they could open the doors to their business in 2005 and on the first day realised they didn’t know how to operate the registers!
With Ralph and Giovanna’s guidance and support the family has developed the business into one of Geelong’s leading gourmet food stores with a reputation for fresh fruit and vegetables at the right price.
Today, Mark is responsible for driving to the Footscray market at midnight each night to collect fresh produce. Daniel is the “mouth of the shop”, chatting with customers and chasing the best deals on high-quality products. Carmel keeps up with the latest health and superfoods, sourcing a variety of continental groceries to stock in the deli from local and imported suppliers. Together they are involved in every aspect of the shop and pride themselves on being hands-on business owners. Other staff are also considered family, contributing to a friendly atmosphere and smooth-running store.
Their motto “quality, service, tradition” means you can expect the highest-quality produce at the right price, exceptional customer service and traditional family values and knowledge of fresh food.
